BACKUP & RESTORE
Android TV Backup and Restore Before Changing Your Launcher
Before changing the TV Home, know how to return to the setup you had. A useful restore record describes specific changes and the device they belong to.
Know what the record contains
In TVPilot, Apply records the previous values of items it plans to change. Depending on the reviewed plan, these can include Home selection, selected package states, settings and companion configuration. This record is scoped to those operations; it is not a full image of the TV.
Keep hiding a tile and disabling an app separate when reviewing the plan. A Restore should follow what was actually recorded rather than assume every app was originally enabled.
Restore needs the matching TV
Account storage makes a record available to the signed-in owner. It does not let the app reach a TV that is offline. TVPilot Restore requires the matching device and firmware, a local connection and authorized debugging. If a recorded value was changed outside the app, the operation may report a conflict rather than overwrite it.
Account records and phone-local recovery are separate
Keep your phone’s recovery files while you still need them. Signing out does not delete those local records. Uninstalling the phone app or clearing its data can remove local recovery files and keys. Deleting cloud account data can remove saved restore points and customizations.
Restore is not a factory reset
TVPilot Restore reverses recorded changes. Additional companion or launcher APKs can remain installed, and streaming accounts stay inside their own apps. Do not expect a Restore to erase everything added to the television.
Plan the check after restoration
Confirm the Home you expect, navigate with D-pad and Back, and check the apps and inputs you actually use. Keep the TV and phone available until you have checked the result. Follow the setup and Restore guide for the required connection and authorization steps.
TVPilot is still in development and final production acceptance is pending. Check current compatibility and the APK release status; this guide does not establish support for unverified TVs.
